Fire Safety in Your Home
Fire safety in the home is very important. There are steps that you can take to make sure that you are protected. One important step is to make sure that you have smoke alarms in your home. You will need to have at least one per floor of your house maybe more depending on how large your house is. Also it is important to keep a large automatic fire extinguisher in your house. Make sure to keep it out of reach of small children. Finally, create an escape plan. Have a couple different plans depending on where the fire is, and practice them with the entire family.
Choosing Between World Peace and an Infinite Supply of Money
If I could have anything, I’d be so tempted to choose an extraordinary amount of cash but selfishness aside, I’d have to go with the classic choice: world peace. Having spent a lot of time in the Middle East, I’ve seen directly how hard it is to build a healthy, functioning society with the omnipresent specter of war waiting to disrupt financial markets, food supplies, and daily life. Politicians use the threat of war to uphold undemocratic regimes. When war does break out, politicians profiteer and families suffer loss of life, income, and the chance to create a better future.
Friendship (Cheesily but Truthfully) Means A Lot to Me
Five years ago, my best friend was in an accident that caused severe trauma to her head. We had been close prior to the accident, but I had never understood how much she meant to me until I realized how tenuous life can be. Although the road to recover some of the health and strength that she once had has been long and extremely difficulty, her wild personality and sparkling wit haven’t changed at all. She is still the best friend that I had before, even with her health limitations. Her friendship is invaluable to me and without her, I’d be a pale shadow of who I am today.

Not Home for the Holidays
High airfare prices means that I am unfortunately stuck on the opposite coast from my family for Christmas. Fortunately my boyfriend’s family here on the West Coast has offered to take me in so that I won’t be too lonely. We’ll be doing a secret Santa gift swap at the holiday party, along with eating a fantastic meal and I’ll be baking a pecan pie to contribute. Afterward, we’ll join some friends for a few holiday libations and participate in yet another secret Santa gift swap! We will also participate in the yearly Friend Holiday Quiz game, where you answer funny questions about your friends and compete for silly prizes.
Fun My Grandma Can Enjoy

My grandma and I share a surprising number of interests, even though I am in my twenties. We both love making things with our hands, such as embroidery, knitting, and sewing. I enjoy taking an art that has passed down through my family and creating things clothes or household items that fit with a more modern sensibility. I also love to bake. I find the process of combining random ingredients into something cohesive and new to be fun, relaxing, and also delicious. I’m not always a homebody, though. When I get the chance, I love to travel to new places all over the world, but I always appreciate coming home to my quiet, relaxing life.
Cheap and Chic
I’ve never been the kind of person to spend a lot of money on clothes. Growing up, I mostly wore hand-me-downs, so getting new clothes at all still feels like a bit of luxury. I tend to shop at inexpensive stores like H&M or Forever 21 for fun, trendy pieces that I won’t wear for more than a season or two. For basics, I shop at Banana Republic and the GAP. The items may be more expensive, but they are also more durable and classic. In San Francisco, I also like stopping in Buffalo Exchange just to browse. Because they sell gently used clothing, it isn’t a great place to shop if you have something specific in mind, but by perusing the racks with an open mind, I often find something unexpected and fun.
Winter Blues
I’ve always wanted to be a winter person, but in truth, the cold makes me grouchy and I can never seem to dress warmly enough. Hailing from the Southern US, I’m used to mild, short winters. The most you’d need to stay warm is a light jacket and maybe some gloves on brisk days. However, even in the South, winters are often gloomy and rainy. Having day after day of overcast skies really makes me long for the sun and tends to make me a little depressed. I do love a nice snowfall every once in a while. It is so rare that a random snow day is a real treat.

A Lovely Thursday
My day is going great! After waking up from a nice long sleep, I started my day off with a brisk forty-five minute walk and it really made a difference in my day. I bypassed the shower and the coffee and just headed straight for the door. By the time I returned to my house to prepare for work, I felt happy and invigorated. Of course, discovering that my roommate left homemade lemon cookies for me to take to lunch helped my mood as well. I briefly chatted with my best friend on the phone before heading out the door to a productive day at work!
What my wife is getting me for christmas

- Image via Wikipedia
It is a gift that I have wanted for a while, but never got. You see it isnt sold in the united states since its illegal. The only way to get it is to have it severly modified, or to try and sneak it past customs. What is this dangerous and clearly leathal gift? A transformer. Thats right. You saw the movie. Remember Megatron? He was the guy in the first movie all frozen in ice, and transformed into a weird alien jet? That guy? Well in the original cartoon he was a gun. A VERY realistic looking gun. in fact its based off the exact gun that was used in the man from U.N.C.L.E, but since I was only born in 1977 I have never seen an episode. Anyway, they started what is called a "Masterpiece" line of transformers. These are for adult collectors and they look (in their robot modes especially) exactly like they did 25 years ago on the old cartoon. I have the first 2 released in the United States. Optimus Prime, and Starscream. But in Japan, they also realeased a Megatron. Some impoters cracked them open and glued orange on the barrel to make them a little more legal, or some just got tham past customs by luck. Well I found a dealer in the states and managed to get one unmodified shipped form inside the country. So $120 he arrived, and sure enough, he is pristine. Not bad for a toy that actually costs $60 in Japan.
My house my be small but its WIRED
So I have a tiny house, but when people come in they are a little taken aback. My primary computer has 3 monitors making it look like a battlestation. from here I run a network to my wife's comupter with 2 monitors making look like a secondary battlestation. Then there is the tertiary computer that runs from the living room. Technically this one has a 42 inch monitor since its conected to the flat screen tv. Then the roving laptop is availible to carry away or work from bed. All of this is wired or powered wirelessly. The laptop talks to the network wirelessly, as does our nintendo wii and nintendo dss. This makes life very easy for my friends who all have laptops and smartphones to connect to the network and have access to exerything they need. Its very handy to be able to download music and then seamlessly access it it from any point in the house. Sometimes the wife mumbles something about a computer in the kitchen dedicated to recipes, episodes of Good Eats, and music while cooking. If we had the counterspace, I am sure it would already have happened. of course now a buddy of mine has develped a plan to mount a computer to the underside of a cabinet, so its still in the cards. Until then, the laptop will have to do. The next project though is to fix up an old computer and load it up with old hard drives just for file storage and then connect all the monitor funtions to my primary computer.
